Our criteria for choosing charities to add to our list.

1. Extensive knowledge of the charities, through members’ current involvement, or through fact-finding, research and meeting with charity staff.

2. We must feel as if the charity does important work in the community.

3. We must feel comfortable that an appropriate percentage of donations go directly to services and not to management and overhead. We will use a standard non-profit percentage as our benchmark.

4. We must feel as if the amount of money we are able to give will make a difference. This might come about by understanding a particular service and how much it costs. For instance, a particular publication from the APLA Youth Services Department that must be funded privately and costs x amount of dollars.
